Stopping BYOD's using a particular proxy!

Hi there,

 

we have just stopped using the RM SafetyNet Plus service for our filtering and area now using the SafetyNet Universal service instead.

 

However, my predecessor for some some reason made public an RM proxy address of adslcache.rmplc.co.uk which bypasses our onsite proxy server!!! Can I do anything to prevent BYOD's from getting out to the web using this adslcache . . . address as a proxy?

 

I was thinking that maybe doing something on our DNS server may prevent this!?!?!

 

Any ideas/help will be greatly appreciated.

You've almost answered your own question. You could indeed add an A record for adslcache.rmplc.co.uk to your internal DNS server and have it resolve to 127.0.0.1 or any other dummy address. Do check that your onsite proxy isn't using it as an upstream proxy though. Edited March 9, 2012 by AngryTechnician

Its probably cached. does it do it after an ipconfig /flushdns ?

 

A DNS change however doesn't fix the problem, it just masks the address.

To fix it you need to firewall the clients from the proxy server.

I'm just in the process of setting up a Sonicwall box ready for when our by leased line gets hooked up over the Easter hols so i'll live with the issue then for now.
