File Won't Delete

I've got some files stuck on one of the RDX disks we use for backup - Command Prompt just ignores them, and if I try and delete them through Explorer, I either get told I don't have permission (user profile folders) or with a few files, I get the problem of very deep folder names and the usual trick of mapping a drive to the parent folder doesn't work as I can't map a drive to a folder on an RDX. Any suggestions for either or both issue?

 

I don't need anything on the disk, so could wipe/reformat the disk if it came to it - is there anything different about the formatting of RDX disks?

With the very deep folder names, can you rename the folders down the entire path to just 1 letter?

i.e \\server\share\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\folder5\folder6\folder7\file.ext to \\server\share\1\2\3\4\5\6\7\file.ext

Once the complete path name is short enough you should be able to delete the file

Thanks, that got the long filenames. Just need to get rid of the folders I don't have permission on now, and then work out how I didn't have permissions in the first place. Could it be because they got copied from the other server? The RDX drive is in Server 2, but these files were copied to it from Server 1.

Just realised I don't actually need to back up the offending files anyway, since they're just user profiles. I'll just remove them from the backup schedule.

I use Unlocker, works every time.

No joy with Unlocker, says "drive access denied" when I try it from a workstation (perhaps doesn't like connecting to an RDX?), and just doesn't load if tried from the server.
