theriver Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Hmm. So I've just seen a trailer for a TV show called 'Dirk Gently'. I don't watch TV much and didn't realise an adaptation had been done. The question is: will it be worth watching, or a huge disappointment? I have asked this table leg, but its answer didn't make any sense.
hit Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Previous adaptation was OK and didn't make me shout at the telly, hopefully this will be just as good!
jinnantonnixx Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Going to watch it; might be OK. I missed the earlier show (pilot?) so I can't comment on that. I thoroughly enjoyed the audio book (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency) read by Douglas Adams himself.
laserblazer Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I saw the one about the cat that travelled in time. It was ok, a bit silly in places.
jamesb Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I have asked this table leg, but its answer didn't make any sense. You obviously didn't interpret it in the right way. Then again furniture has been spouting nonsense recently - last time I spoke to my chair it told me Lucy Liu was going to play Watson. Crazy stuff.
Andrew_C Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I heard that it was more "based loosely on a story by Adams", rather than a faithful adapting of the books. It would be rather challenging to bring them to the screen.
Haptic Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Watched it, liked it. Mr Mangan is pretty good in my eyes (Green wing and 'the hunt for Tony Blair' were ace, shame about the Barclaycard ads...) McDuff was played by the guy that also portrayed a young John Cleese in the excellent Holy Flying Circus. Any character that likes Brie wins with me, as does anyone that takes a knife to a piece of furniture. Joe
Flatpackhamster Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 It was OK. The plot was fun but I got the sense that they were trying to cram a huge amount in to an hour and were having trouble. I'm worried that it might end up like that rather dismal detective-in-the-tropics. But it was diverting enough for an hour.
