Our Deputy in charge of ICT has been tasked with investigating using IPads for teaching purposes. None of us technicians own one and apparently all the people she knows with a personal one say they're really good but otherwise don't justify much use for teaching. Because money is tight, she's understandably balking at just buying one to see.

It would be really helpful to find some other schools who have already figured out how to use Ipads and could pm me the details of someone there I can pass on to our deputy for her to have a chat with. This would also get me lots of brownie points :D

thanks in advance

If you need to find a use for something, do you *really* need it? Especially considering how much iPads cost! :p

Probably not. It's always worth investigating new technology though.

It will work fine if you have an infrastructure to support it. i.e. wireless, an 'access from home' strategy, a good use of the VLE in school, web-based office apps, citrix.

If your an 'old school' Windows/MSOffice school then you better spending the money elsewhere.

We're an SEN school, so our use is probably different to some, but I for one can say that iPads make a huge impact here. So much so that we're increasing our stock by 1000%. Mind you, we only have one currently. I think they're amazing, and I'm the last person on earth to be a Mac fanboy. There are lots of websites with useful links for edu apps, etc. Might be worth looking here - ssat ipad4sen - if you are an SEN setting.
