Just a quick one...

I want to swap a 'C drive' from one computer to another.

If I install the drive and then perform a repair install of XP will that work??

Is there a better way?

If you;re lucky and there's not much difference between the two computers, you may not even need to do the repair install. It's also my experience that any machine that has had a repair install run will never be 100% again, so I tend to treat it as a last resort.

the machines are completely different.

and yes... this is a last resort. The pc has a few programs on that we no longer have the discs for, and it will save me a lot of time!

In the past I've usually changed all the drivers over to the standard/very basic ones that come with windows before moving the drive over, especially for the video card and chipset bits.

Using sysprep is another good option, remember to put the mass storage bits in and it should go over easily
