Mr.Ben Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Google Chrome MSI without it being laced with the Google Updater software? The standard 'Standalone' MSI isn't what I'm after. I'm trying to push it out with GPO. My problem is that the Google update component can't connect to the Internet, so fails. This takes 7 hours before Chrome is installed. Using the ADM files for Google update doesn't do the trick either :-( Thanks in advance Ben
MatthewL Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 This any good: Chrome for Business ? Google Apps
Mr.Ben Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 Thanks Matt, but this is the one I'm working with (The 'Standalone' version) Regards, Ben
6Foot2 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 @Mr.Ben perhaps this thread will help you: Link: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/88693-chrome-msi-install-hang.html 1
Mr.Ben Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 Thanks @DaveP - There is a switch to use -NOGOOGLEUPDATES=1 This can be applied using the following MST file: chrome_transform.mst
basicchannel Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I hope I'm not hijacking this thread but: Is anyone having issues with Chrome not bringing down GP settings? I've installed the adm template on a server 2003 machine, deployed Chrome to a test client and the only GP setting it seems to pick up is the homepage. Things like blacklisting all extensions by just putting a '*' in the GP blacklist don't seem to take effect. I can still add the eBay extension for example, from a student account on the test client. I take it other people have successfully deployed Chrome in a school environment?
6Foot2 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I had successfully deployed Chrome and used the ADM to add blacklisted and whitelisted extensions. It all worked well. We edited the blacklist just as you describe [* in the blacklist box]
basicchannel Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hmm, that's strange. It may be to do with some AD inconsistencies on our server as I have inherited quite a setup here. Perhaps I should just wait until we complete our 2008 R2 migration.
6Foot2 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Perhaps I should just wait until we complete our 2008 R2 migration. For comparison: Our domain controller: Windows Server Standard: SP2: 64 Bit. Clients: Windows 7 Pro: SP1: 64 Bit.
Mr.Ben Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Are you using the ADM or the ADMX files? If you're using the ADMX files, have the clients got the Group Policy Update to enable their use?
basicchannel Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Are you using the ADM or the ADMX files? ADM innit.
DrCheese Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Hiya, I had this issue when I deployed chrome You need to add an arguement to the msi installer (or an MST) Issue 80567 - chromium - Chrome Business installer fails when GoogleUpdater has no internet connection - An open-source browser project to help move the web forward. - Google Project Hosting 1
