Replacing RM Mobile One (Second Gen) Touchpad

Hi,

 

We have some Mobile One, second gen laptops and the touchpads are faulty. We have a selfcare warranty with RM and they have sent out the parts to be able to replace it. However, there aren't any guidelines with the replacement parts and apparently they don't send that sort of thing out. I've taken laptops apart before to replace keyboards, mouse keys etc but the mobile one is a slightly different beast to those and it looks like the screen might have to come off.

 

So, my plea is has anyone already replaced the touchpad and mouse keys and can give me some guidance on how you did it.

 

Any advice/help greatly appreciated.

The touchpads on those (as well as the left mouse buttons, shakes fist!) really are their weakest spots

 

However onto point - did they send you just the pad or the whole wristrest? Every time I tried previously they would only send them out with the whole plastic assembly (bezel & wristrest) at HUGE costs. I can help with wristrest assembly but not just the little gubbins. I've done it but couldn't remember any specifics

They have sent the wristrest and boards for the touchpad and keys I think if you can give me an idea of what I need to remove to change the wristrest then I can have a look at the others.

 

Although, after posting on here and sending a hefty email to RM about how unhelpful not having guidelines are I highlighted some points from the selfcare warranty T&C's they have now offered to do it at the service centre free of charge

 

Would still be good to know how to do this if any future mobile ones do the same, which it sounds like they probably will.

Happy days, that won't be quite as fiddly then. Remove battery (obviously) and all plastics from the bottom, remove keyboard from top, remove all screws from bottom (and I think there's 3 or 4 under the keyboard). Whole wristrest should lift away but take care around the hinges - if memory serves me correct, keep the screen absolutely flat (open wide as far as it will go) so the bezel just lifts over the hinges.

That should be just about it
