Proposed new EU law and the right to be forgotten on the internet

ignores the fact that the internet is a global entity.

Exactly my thoughts when I heard about this.. So it's cool if servers hosted outside the EU refuse to delete your data on request?

Even things as stupid as not being able to delete an account on facebook. You can disable it, but reactiveate it at any time and recover all the data kept there previously. It be stoopid. I'm all for any online service destroying your data on-request (providing, of course, said data isn't incriminating. I'd have a problem with someone deleting a huge archive of [insert illegal practice here] and citing "Well, they wanted to be forgotten..) but it needs to be a worldwide thing.

Then again, if the EU passed ACTA, what hope is there for interwebs fairness?
