Domino Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Do they have access to the controls and you just want a shortcut? You could use the files option in GPP to copy them from a share to the desktop folder of the user? Unless you're already using roaming profiles, or redirected desktop?

Michael Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 As Sted mentioned, this is for Windows Vista and later. You'll need to be running at least 2008/2008 R2 server side and Vista or 7 client side. I bet you have 'Hide the notification area' enabled which would hide everything other than the clock in XP. Setting this to Not Configured or Disabled should do the trick. 1
Little-Miss Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Spot on as always Michael! Now, my question is can you hide certain icons in the Notification area? For instance if there is a local SQL database thingy running. For example the iPlanner one.
Michael Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I know the database thingy you're talking about The MS SQL icon is there because it's set to start in the Startup folder. In theory, you could remove it from: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup as the SQL service should still start by default, but I would double check this. On a separate issue, there is an online version of I-Planner now available, as the standalone SQL version (as I found out) doesn't work fully on Windows 7. 1
Michael Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Icons which appear in the notification area can also be located in the registry: HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Run or HKKU > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Run In XP/2003 you could create a startup script to delete these entries. In 2008 R2 GPP is useful for doing these sort of 'mods'. 1
