Hi,

I'm looking at buying a network attached storage device - one that has a LAN connection. Never used one before.

Can anyone recommend one - we only need something like 2TB of storage.

Also if you have one that size or more - how do you back it up - onto another NAS device ?

I'd rather have a proper one rather than just a USB external disk attached to the server !

Thanks

It all depends on how many users will be concurrently connected and what you expect to use it for.

I have a 2TB LG NAS with BlueRay RW for my home stuff and a 6TB iSCSI ReadyNAS Pro connected to my Hyper-V server each does its job nicely.

I recently put one of these Iomega Cloud Edition devices into one of my friends small business put him onto Office 365 and dumped the SBS Server he is so happy with it!

Thanks Zag, Yes I had a quick look at the Qnap.

Couple of questions :

1 - Can you set permissions linking to AD ?

2 - I take it the price doesn't include disks !

3 - How do you back the thing up - to an external USB disk ?

Thanks

1) Yes it has AD integration.

2) I bought the version which included disks. 8tb was about 600 quid I think.

3) You can backup like any other disk. Personally I have 2 x qnaps and use their mirror feature.

Perfect, thanks for that. I've noticed the 459 which is rack mounted so I'm guessing that will have same features etc.

The mirror feature sounds really good. Is the mirror "live" - IE if you access a file share it could access the mirror one as well or is it just a copy ?

Might get 2 of those tomorrow.
