BBC News - Apple's Jonathan Ive gets knighthood in honours list

 

Seriously?

 

Yes Ive is a good designer, but a knighthood at his age for it?

The age thing doesn't worry too much. It's comments like, to quote the article:

 

"Mr Ive has been lauded for the tight fit between form and function seen in Apple gadgets such as the iPod and iPhone."

 

Apple? Form and function? Surely they should be executing him rather than knighting him, if that was the case? If Apple ever get the form vs function right, they'd be 100% dominant.

I've a cynical feeling that if Jobs was still alive Ive would not have his knighthood.

 

It seems a bit like UK.GOV is jumping on the Jobs mourning wagon and doing the most public thing they can do to the only high ranking British citizen at Apple.

He got a CBE in 2005, six years before Mr Jobs died so he is just getting more recognition for his work in design.

oddly I think he actually deserves it, contrary to what many people here may think. How many others can go from being a normal designer to the bosses right hand man in less than 2 years, and then whilst being there, for the next 10+ years, continually pump out good designs, which whilst may not be to everyones liking, but are remarkably good nonetheless

in my mind no one deserves to be knighted for something like designing a product, the privilege of knighthood should be kept for those who risk there lives saving others, imo knighthood lost all of its meaning years ago.

Agreed, it's just become yet another celebrity must have IMO.
