MAC Home Directories

Hi Everyone

 

I'm new to the Mac game but have done pretty well I think. Heres the background:

 

-Mac Mini server running 10.6.7

-Mac Clients running 10.6.7

-All binded to AD and OD magic triangle

-Workgroup manager set up and working with clients.

-Dock all set and and AFP shares set up.

 

Now my problem, (Which I'm sure has already being answered but I had difficulty finding the answer) the home directory is in AD as \\server\staff\username where the username is the name of the account and folder (standard stuff). My mac's when mounting the share do this. Instead of mounting \\server\staff\username it mounts \\server\staff .

 

Thats the problem, any idea's? Sorry if any of this doesnt make sense, the pain killers for my ankle are kicking in

Macs don't tend to mount directly to the user's dir. They only mount the root of the share, in your case \\Server\Staff. I think the reason for this is that each user has a sites folder and a public drop box that you could take advantage of if it mounts the root of the share. If it mounted the user's home dir then this would not be possible unless you went back up the hierarchy.

 

You can script it as some people have done in this forum. I don't tend to as I use security to restrict each user to their own dir. Every user in my case mounts the root share but has no entry to any other dir except their own. If the amount of users that are in there is the problem for browsing, you can add the home dir to the dock using WGM preferences.

Sounds like you have the exact same set up as me, only with a better idea on how to work a mac. So for my next request, how can I add their home dir to the dock? via scripting or is their something I missed in WGM.

Scrap that, ound the the bit in WGM but still has access permission issues. I know whats wrong just got to sort it. Thank you again
