ok yesterday i did something stupid....i was tidying up the workstation accounts in the management console and stupidly removed the active accounts!!!

so thought ok, i'll just rebuild them. Went to rebuild the laptops and my image keeps failing - it builds to the default windows log on but no further. i've tried checking the error log on the laptop and removing the package that was causing the error but it just won't go any further...any ideas?

oh and on one of the laptops is a video thats in digital blue movie creator (luckily i did back up the individual bits of it, but not the whole complete video...arrggghh!) and i need to get the video out of there! but i don't know the local admin password for the laptop (have never known it in fact!)

HELP!! any ideas on how i can get round this? i'm currently backing up the image from a laptop that is working - but that's only 2 out of 15! i can only put it down to having a blonde moment!

Dunno about the black magic CC3 does so can't help there.

However for getting your video off the laptop, just boot it with a Linux Live CD. That'll get you access to the HDD plus the network/USB/CD Writer. Thus allowing you to get the data off.

Alternatively pull out the HDD and put it in another machine as a slave. As it's a laptop drive you'll need a conversion cable if you want to put it in a desktop PC.

Once you've deleted a machine you have to rebuild completely - not restore an image.

RM machines don't have any local admin accounts, so you will need to either

a) connect to the network and see if you can run \\laptopname\C$\ to access the harddisk via a network share

b) put the harddrive into a USB enclosure

c) boot up with a linux live CD and mount the harddisk and copy of the network.

arrggh thats not good...haven't got any of those options! i'm doomed!

good job i've got a backup of the individual bits of the video!!

ok so how do i fix my image so that i can rebuild them?? as i've said i've removed the package from the network that i think was causing the problem but it just won't build!! how annoying and frustrating is this?

I think you'll just have to stick a build disk in, rebuild managed mode and start from scratch. But once it is built you can create a new restore image....

have got it rebuilding properly - discovered another rogue package...so that makes life slightly easier...just need to apologise profusely to the teacher who has lost her movie! at least i still have the individual clips, so i can at least say to her that i can put it together if she tells me the running order...she also wanted to special effects in there so i can add them in for her as well...

thanks for all the help so far!

set administrator password on the laptop to RM

start, run, \\EXAMPLE-SR-001\RM Holding

Utillities, RM Commisioning Utilities, install msi

C:\RM\INSTALL\SMARTCLIENT.BAT

PC then restarts

Box appears, computer name, give it it's name

Setup user name, Setup

Setup password, what ever you set the password to

Then your domain, so EXAMPLE.INTERNAL or w/e

press ok, and your done it then builds like a it would with a build disk after the xp setup.
