Temporary Internet Files Folder

I want to redirect this to somewhere in the users' Document folder, as we've had a couple of instances of people opening files from email, working on them and then saving it, only for it to be deleted when they log off. I've looked at GPO and can see how to change pretty much every possible setting in IE except this one. Anyone know if/how this can be done?

You can supposedly do this via the registry (so can craft an ADM/ADMX file to do it).

That one looks good; I had to specify the Documents folder as N: rather than a UNC path, I think because IE doesn't like using a shared folder for the TIF folder, but I think it worked...

Next question, how do I regulate the size of it? It is defaulting to 109MB from who-knows-where, and I don't really want to have give over some 50GB of disk space to Temporary Internet Files.

Correction - that successfully redirected the Temporary Internet Files folder but at the cost that people couldn't print anything from the Internet; it printed the "page 1" header and the URL and date footer, but nothing in between. I've undone my changes for now.

I wouldn't bother personally. Once this has happened to them once, they won't make the same mistake again.

Cool, so I just need another 500 people to make the same mistake once, and then it won't be an issue - until September, of course.

I'd be interested in a solution for this as well. Another thing is that often files open in read-only mode when opening them like this, which prevents people from thinking they're saving it when they're not. I'm not sure what causes it tbh. I'd like to enforce it to always happen.

The simplest solution would be to switch to a different browser. Google Chrome, for example, defaults to downloading files to your Downloads folder instead of a temp folder.

Google Chrome also installs into the user profile, making it somewhat unfriendly to roaming profiles, but I take your point. It seems like a drastic solution to a small problem, though.
