We are deploying many carts of netbooks and pulling out most labs. How do others manage their netbook carts? I am thinking it will be a nightmare to manage and the best solution would be to place an ethernet switch in the cart with a connection to each netbook and one connection going external to be plugged into a network drop overnight. This way we can wake on lan and perform updates and installations in the off hours.

It may not be what you're after, but I just keep them on a wireless connection and do all our maintenance work on them over Christmas and Summer. Build a new image with updates etc, roll it out automatically to them all over a wired connection and bung 'em back in the trolly.

You could deploy them automatically using something like Fog or WDS.
