jaroslaw Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 We are deploying many carts of netbooks and pulling out most labs. How do others manage their netbook carts? I am thinking it will be a nightmare to manage and the best solution would be to place an ethernet switch in the cart with a connection to each netbook and one connection going external to be plugged into a network drop overnight. This way we can wake on lan and perform updates and installations in the off hours.
Blue_Cookeh Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 It may not be what you're after, but I just keep them on a wireless connection and do all our maintenance work on them over Christmas and Summer. Build a new image with updates etc, roll it out automatically to them all over a wired connection and bung 'em back in the trolly. You could deploy them automatically using something like Fog or WDS.
plexer Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Wake on lan in a big metal box sounds like it'll fry em all tbh. Ben
jaroslaw Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 I've seen it done elsewhere and it seems to work well for them.
