NETWORK MANAGER

 

Following a review of our current ICT infrastructure we wish to appoint an experienced Network Manager who has skills appropriate to the needs of a forward-thinking Independent School of 550 pupils. Within the next academic year, the school will be considering how ICT support is best offered to its users. Given this situation, the appointment will be for one year in the first instance.

 

Areas for immediate focus:

• Complete network re-design and re-build with server virtualisation
  
• Introduction of remote access “anytime, anywhere” systems for staff and pupils
  
• Exploration of cloud/mobile computing and its use in the school environment
  
• Integration of cross-platform technologies such as Apple/Open Source products

Kind of cant help but. I know a year is a long time but I can't afford to have even a possibility of being out of a job in that time, even more so when you consider the level of input this post asks for.

My impression of this ad is that the school is in almost the same position my school was in when I took my job. My school had considered outsourcing but the Bursar had convinced them to give a full time post a go. It sounds like a final decision hasn't been made with this post, but I would say that if you went in and made an impression, the decision to keep support in-house would be made pretty quickly.

 

If my experience is anything to go by, a school like this can be very rewarding for the right person. It's big enough to have the money to do something interesting, but small enough for you to integrate with the rest of the staff.

I've applied for the role as it sounds quite interesting with lots of scope for development! Would require a move up that way though, which i am happy to do. Or a 3 hour Commute each way!
