synaesthesia Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Is anyone else using this combination? We're just about to ditch Smartcache as something to do with the new Symantec from RM (Virus Protect 5 or Endpoint Protection 11) is seriously breaking it, nearest reason we can find is Java - the identd clients installed on the workstations don't seem to like it We've rushed through testing of Forefront Threat Management Gateway (as well as DansGuardian on Smoothie Express and plain Squid) and found that to be the best alternative, so that's going in place soon. However I find it hard to believe we're the only people with an old Smartcache 2 box and RMVP5/SEP. The client is only because it's too old to support AD integration. If so have you had any issues?
Chris_ Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 We've got a newer Smartcache box with AD integration and RMVP5. We are having some issues with it but apparently it's a problem with the AD integration, nobody has mentioned VP5 being a cause of these problems?! Are you having the same issues as these http://www.edugeek.net/forums/networks/84436-rm-smartcache-keeps-falling-over.html ?
synaesthesia Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 No, the main difficulty we can find is that because the smartcache box is too old for AD authentication it has to use an identd client which is Java powered and causing issues with Symantec EP which is using the same thing. Not too worries now thankfully, Forefront TMG is coming along nicely - so much so we've announced our intention to replace it this week
