TechSupp Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Trying without sucess to deploy the latest flash msi over the network using GPO. Set the msi as I have before for other msi's in a GPO, done a gpupdate /force and rebooted the clients a couple of times and as yet it still does not install flash 11? The web pages stull just show the place holder and an x Other versions we have had on done by GPO have installed fine and even get messages saying that version 10 is being uninstalled. I'm doing this on server 2008 R2 with XP clients. Is there any other (fool proof) way of installing flash player if I cant get this going with an msi. Oh and instructions would be helpfull
localzuk Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I created a GPO to do this yesterday - i'm afraid all I did was put the MSI into a shared drive, and added it as an assigned software installation. However, my one isn't doing any updating. So, this makes me think that it is the v10 install removal that is failing? Have you had a look in the event viewer to see what is happening?
TechSupp Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Problem solved, it was a case or operator error! When I looked again and I looked at the full description of the msi I noticed it was the one for plugins! Doh! Downloaded the correct activex msi and hey presto it works! Thanks for the suggestion, got me to look at it again, just that the column width was not wide enough so it didnt show the last bit of the msi file name. Thats my excuse anyway!
gshaw Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Quick sanity check, did you download the ActiveX MSI or the plugin one, might just be something simple Also another nearly moment is if you're using an x64 machine to download from the distribution page it defaults to the x64 plugin rather than the 32-bit one you need for XP clients... Edit: looks like I guessed it right, do I get a biscuit Edited November 4, 2011 by gshaw
TechSupp Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 EduBiscuit on the way, hour in a dark corner for me though, face slap!
