Stuart_C Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) I've got a load of free space on my server and want to start using it. However I already have 3 primary and an extended partion created on the disk (and I don't want to be deleting and recreating stuff!) All disks are basic disks the server won't let me create a new volume as I have reached the maximim number, fair enough, but I don't seem to be able to add logical drives into the extended partition form the GUI nor can I see a way to extend the extended partition form the Server Manager GUI. I've had a quick look at DISKPART and I can't see a way to extend the ammount of space taken up by the extended partition. Is this the best way forward or am I missing something? Stuart_C Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 OK... Having just been messing around on my test server I'm managed to trick windows by increasing the size of my final volume to take up all the free space (windows automatically increases the size of the extended partition) and then reducing it back down to it's original size. Windows then leaves me with a chunk of free space in the extended partition to create some more logical drives. A reasonable solution? Or one destined to cause me problems? Any better suggestions?
