Web slow down

Problem for a friend at Liverpool Uni

 

Win7 laptop: can connect with teamviewer quite fast. When she goes onto the web, national rail or iPlayer the machine freezes for a few (minutes) seconds now (12 seconds). This is the same with IE (9); Chrome and Firefox.

 

I did a big clearout the other week for the same problem, and she said it was working fine afterwards. A couple of malware items found and removed. Removed MSSE and installed Avast Free. Bonjour service disabled. Re-installed network card drivers.

 

Anyone have any suggestions please??

Hmm... every time it happens I'm getting an iaStor Event ID: 9 error in the system event logs

It didn't find the updated driver itself, and the updated one linked on that page is dead ah s'ok downloaded v10.6

 

If this doesn't work it's change the bios setting to ATA

No joy

 

The bios is a pheonix and options for SATA = none/ IDE mode/ AHCI ...only AHCI works.

 

Only thing I didn't try was updating the BIOS which I wasn't wanting to do over the phone. I've asked my friend to call Dell (who quoted £200 to remove a virus) and tell them that it's an ioStor Event ID 9 error and get them to fix it.
