"PCL Out of Memory" when printing pictures in Word

Since moving to Office 2010/Windows 7, our Xerox Phaser printers refuse to print images in Word - you get the text of your Word document, followed by a page which reads "PCL5 Out of Memory Error". This is specific to Word 2010 and our Xerox Phaser printers; other printers are fine, PowerPoint and Adobe Reader are fine, if you save the Word document as a PDF file, then that also prints. Any suggestions?

Check if there are any firmware upgrades and driver updates for the printers and if that does not work look at the spooling options in the driver.

The last firmware upgrade we did caused more problems than it solved, so we ended up rolling them back to an even earlier version. Could be worth another try now our platform is so very different though...

Yea that was a problem we had with our older Xerox stuff too, it was epic old though so the new firmware may well help if its newer hardware. You may need them to wipe the config first before the upgrade though as that was a big stumbling block on our gear.

I've just been told that one of our Xerox printers is unaffected by this problem. On comparing two printers, the driver is the same, the firmware is the same and all settings on the server are the same. What am I missing?

I've just changed one of the affected printers to PS drivers, and it can now print images from Word. We did have other driver-related problems with these printers when we first set them up, so maybe there was something funny in the driver we were using.

Just a quick thanks here; hit this issue today (after a week of being on a shiny new printer server) then realised the old drivers were postscript rather than PCL
