jtotheb Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Is this is the 701 or Surf 4G? If so I made the recovery USB stick from the CD/DVD in Windows and recovered the system from a USB stick. You could give that a go rather than trying to boot directly from a USB DVD. 1
dhicks Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 i was given an asus eeepc 4g.It has been wiped by the looks of it. Those Eee PCs work well with Debian - I have a test machine here with an initial text-only install of Debian on with the XFCE window manager added afterwards. The original restore disk is probably rather out of date by now. You might need to change your BIOS settings so your USB DVD drive is the first item on the boot devices list. 1
BHMS Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 There are boot options in the bios for usb cd drives (plug it in first). We have a set of 18 at my school. I stuck ubuntu on them and use a script to launch rdesktop to our terminal server. Works well enough considering they only have 4gb of disk space you can't really fit much on them. I tried integrating them into AD but they quickly ran out of disk space for new user profiles.
