We're in the middle of setting up Fog here, and one thing that has cropped up is the issue of the time it takes for snapins to deploy.

We're trying to go down the route of having a single base image, then install a driver pack depending on which machine it is, and then install application snap-ins.

It works fine, except it takes a while for it to pick up the snap-ins waiting for deployment. The client always chooses a number over 350 seconds after running to wait until it looks for a waiting snap-in. Waiting for 6 minutes + between snapins can be a bit annoying...

Has anyone got any hints how a machine can force an update within a quicker time?

After downloading the code for the snapin module, it is hard coded to create a random wait of between 350 and 500 seconds after being called.

I'm going to investigate reducing this down to a minute or so to see if it works ok with that.

Yea this is hard coded, and is a frustrating one at that. The theory behind the wait time is for the machine to power up and finish any post installation jobs before it continues on. But agreed the 5 min wait time adds a big delay in the overall imaging time.

You can over-ride this by going into the fog folder on the machine and changing the .ini file to a lower time. Or recompile the snapinclient.dll for checkin time - https://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/forums/forum/716419/topic/3720462
