Map admin share using Group Policy Preferences

I am trying to move away from Scripted Drive Mappings to using GPP. I am testing using Server 2008 R2 and an XP SP3 client. The client has Client side Extensions installed. I can use GPP to put shortcuts on the desktop and map printers successfully. I have tried to map an admin share called "staff$" but it never appears when I log into the client. If I replace the mapping with a normal share ie "staff" then it maps no problem. I have ensured that my test user has access to the $ share but it just wont appear on the client machine.

 

Can I use GPP to map admin shares? All our staff shares are shared with $ so if I cant use GPP to map these then I will have to go back to Scripts.
