Hulbert99 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Hi all got an orange Sanyo PLC-XE40 projector that just will not turn on. Red light is on all the time as if it is in standby but will not power on. Remote is fine as have tried it on different projector. Have cleaned it all out but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks
bossman Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 @Hulbert99: It could be one of a couple of things: 1. Bulb may be broken 2. Heat sensor on circuit board may be broken. 3. Bulb compartment micro-switch may be broken. 4.Someone may have inadvertently changed the channel on the remote (To reset channel, press menu and image buttons on remote together for 10 secs whilst pointing at projector) Hope this helps 1
Chris_Cook Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I've had a few Sanyos like this this term that I fixed by turning them off at the wall and then back on again. Some of these projectors have two modes for the remote (if you want to operate two similar projectors in the same room). The manual shows you how to change the mode. Other options could be dead bulb, the lamp hours counter being over the limit, the thermal cutout having tripped (search these forums for the reset procedure), or it being properly broken and needing repair or replacement. If I remember correctly, there are also some reset buttons near the video inputs on the back. Might be worth trying those. Bear in mind if you run the bulbs for longer than 2000 hours, you risk the lamp exploding which can be difficult to clean out. The lamp should be clear and shiny inside when new. If its dull grey or the stem in the middle is blown up like a balloon, you probably need to replace the lamp.
bloomcomputing Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Sorry to resurrect an old post, I'm having a similar problem now with a new bulb in the XE-40. I know the projector remote code is good, because there are of course no power buttons on these projectors. Power button turns from red to green, and then the projector makes some fan noises as normal on startup. However the bulb never lights, and then after a while the projector gives up and flashes red whilst in the shutdown fan sequence. You can keep trying this, but it does the same every single time. Any ideas?
bladedanny Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) It can be a few things, but the most common I've noticed after a dead lamp is the internal hard thermal switch. To reset this you have to take the top cover off and insert something (I usually use a paper clip) into the hole in the circuit board just above the black lamp cover. There's a guide on here somewhere on how to do it. --edit-- This post covers what I said. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/42705-cleaning-sanyo-plc-xe40-projector-2.html#post469774 Edited November 4, 2013 by bladedanny 1

bloomcomputing Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Unfortunately this hasn't solved the problem. I could find the hole in the board where the switch is meant to be, but there's nothing down it! Fingers crossed my spare ones aren't dead....
wattsnxt Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 The " reset channel ", really helped me. Thanks
bladedanny Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 do you reset with the power on? No. It involves taking the case off so I'd always do it with the power off.
shortybee Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 ok thanks, i have a red warning and red power indicator on
