DSapseid Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I am currently using RIS for imaging machines and it works brilliantly. However i have just had a provisioning server installed (Citrix) and that means that is broadcasting a PXE boot for the clients to boot from. Which means i now have 2 servers that are trying to do network boots and they both are not doing it. I have seen some articles on telling RIS to not listen on port 66 and let it use 67 and let the provisioning use 66. However i cant find where to do this! I know i should just move to WDS but at Easter we are having a complete network overhaul so I don't want to spend the time now doing something I will have to do again at Easter - when i may provision all the new machines anyway! Does anyone know of how to either make RIS not listen on port 66 or any other way that i could have both servers working! I am on a flat network with one subnet so i cant do it that way!

Provisioning server is a virtual server on XenServer on HP Blade in a C3000 enclosure Blade enclosure connects to a HP2910al-24g switch Classroom has its own switch connected to above switch, switch is a HP 2650. Machines connected to that switch directly. Just a brief outline of my situation if that helps!
Geoff Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Er, RIS doesn't use port 66. It uses the standard ports for DHCP and TFTP and also it's BINL service uses 4011?
DSapseid Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 Ah ok didnt know that, the article i read seemed to think it did!! The server that hosted RIS has died this morning so that part of the problem is solved, however i have now built a WDS server. I have found various articles explianing about editing dhcp option 43 to determin which machines look at what pxe server. This should be fairly easy as the provisioned clients mac address' all have the same 8 characters at the start just the last 4 are different. I want all machines that mac address 44444444???? to point to 192.168.168.14 and everything else to .13 Ive seen this https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?q1=DHCP&rs=3176&uid=swg21247032&context=SS3HLM&cs=utf-8&lang=en&loc=en_US but cant seem to make proper sense out of it!
Geoff Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Can't you tailor your dhcp responses based on Vendor IDs and/or client IDs? Thats how I do it here for my differing SIP phones.
DSapseid Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Ended up creating a custom boot menu for WDS with options for WDS, Citrix Provisioning and to exit and continue to boot HDD. Set it so that the Citrix boots automatically after 5 seconds. It works like a charm!!

DSapseid Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Thanks for that, ill have a look at that as well as that seems like a more logical way to do it. Had lots of fun trying to get WDS to call the Citrix Provisioning BIN file but got there in the end!!
