Files locked for editing - but they are not

Anybody got any ideas?

 

I have a load of users who when trying to open a file it says it is locked for editing. Now i know this normally occurs when the files are located in the shared area and two people have opened the file.

 

But this is now starting to happen on peoples user areas where they don't have any files open (programs not running in background).

 

This is happening with both word, excel and powerpoints

 

Any idea?

The only way of undoing the look is reboot the server.

Might be worth checking on the server what it thinks has the file open, either through their share and store management area, and/or process monitor Process Explorer

 

Could be something as stupid as AV/backup etc.

Turn on hidden files and see if the lock files for these documents are still there. For example, for a document named Ducking Word Document.docx, the lock file will be named ~$cking Word Document.docx

 

If they are there, delete them.
