oalcock Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Hello All, I bought the install DVDs for MAC OS X 10.5 Leopard from ebay..... may have been a silly idea but they are official DVDs. I have realised that it may not be a retail install and therefore when I try and run the install it says "Cannot install software on this computer". Does anybody know if there is anyway around using these DVDs that I have bought at all. I have formatted the hard drive on the MAC so at the moment there is not much I can do with the MAC until I get an OS on it. I would be so appreciative of some advice as I have got to a stage where I am almost pulling my hair out! I would have bought Snow Leopard but my iMac has a power pc processor and not an intel processor. I only payed £11 for the DVDs so I thought I was getting a bit of a "too good to be true deal". Dos_Box Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Many OSX disks are designed for specific models such as iMacs, MacBooks and MacBook Pros. If it's done a scan and found you lacking it'll just dig it's heels in and refuse to go further. It will even (IRRC) differntiate between the varius models in a range. Not sure about any workarounds though.
oalcock Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 If i buy an OEM MAC OS X DVD pack for an iMac even though mine is a G4, would this work? A retail copy is like £80 you see! So not wanting to go down that route unless I have to.
