XP needs to find a mouse driver!

I've installed 1000's of computers but its still nice when they throw curved balls at you

 

Got some new optical mice to replace old ball ones - on the 3rd (identical) computer I came to (of course the most complaining teacher ) she came looking for me afterwards and said it doesn't work.

 

It wanted to look for drivers on t'internet - I couldn't get the dialog box to work with the keyboard(???) so had to plug in old mouse (PS2 so needed to reboot) and then search for USB driver.

 

It then said (after 5 mins of course) that the driver hadn't passed XP testing(!!!) and after we got past that - it then wanted an HID compliant device driver as well!!!!!

 

After that final hurdle - the new mouse works.

 

Just what you want in the middle of rolling out 7 new Win7 smartboard replacement machines

It's the one thing I love about Windows 7. The driver database is huge and installs most devices automatically!

 

I hope you won't have to do this on all your XP machines, it could be a nightmare as the drivers are not signed!

And now having created an image on my first Win7 machine and resotring it to 2nd machine - afterwards it said can't read the hard drive!

PS Rule one - don't leave jobs till last day before start of new year

3 hours later (after trying differnet machine and redoing master image!) it turns out that the correct partition was not makred as active and it was trying to boot from the data one

 

So the wagon is finally rolling again!
