inag Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Hi i have recently been moving our college from xp to 7, i have created all of the required polices and tested and all was good in the ou where i was testing. I have now built most of the other rooms in the college which are all stored in sperate ou's, when i have tested in these rooms the policies do not apply yet they are still working in the first ou. any ideas?
Michael Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I presume you've linked the required GPOs to these other OUs in Group Policy Management? And you tried running gpupdate /force from a workstation?
inag Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 All gpo's are linked and enforced at locations level, room 1 policies applied, room 2 policies not applied. Yeah i have used gpupdate /force with no success unfortunately ad structure locations workstations room1 room2
Marshall_IT Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Make sure your not blocking inheritance. try running GPRESULT /H GPReport.html on the clients that its not applying too, this should show you what is and is not applying.
Michael Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 You could try disabling Policy Inheritance and see if the policy then works as required. I really only use this to identify problems rather than a permanent solution.
jinnantonnixx Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 When I get odd things happening, I use the GPO simulation tool (Group Policy Modelling, found at the bottom of the left hand pane of the Group Policy Management tool). Run the simulation against a particular machine (and user) - this will tell you what should be happening. I bet this will shed some light on what's going wrong.
inag Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 inheritance is not blocked, i have run a gpresult on the pc's that are not working and it does not show the policies it should be applying when logged in as a user, when i run a gpresult as local admin it does show the correct policies that should be applying to the pc and user but it shows as not applied filtered as it should as this is a local account not a network account.
