RabbieBurns Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Exchange is working fine, but as of yesterdays backups for exchange, they have been failing with the following error: Ive tried to re-run the backup but it fails at different points (im looking at the amount of data it copied and it was different on both when it failed) Not entirely sure what or where I should look or if this is a bexec issue or there is actually corruption in my data store.
irsprint84 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 At worst could you use Windows inbuilt backup to backup exchange? (Just so you have something)
sukh Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 1. What do the logs say in event viwer, I have seen issue where 3rd party backups have suggested they have failed but havent. 2. Check ESEBAckup and ESE in the event logs and see if exch backup is a success or failure, you should see event id's, like 212,213,214, 215, 1
RabbieBurns Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 I couldn't find any errors on the event log on the exchange server, but wasnt looking for backup logs on the exchange server - what section are they listed under? Ive rebooted the backup exec server, all todays backups have so far completed succesfully, its doing the mail server just now so will see if it works or not.
sukh Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 1. Check in the application Log, let me know how it goes.
RabbieBurns Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Hi @sukh, After that one error from backup exec, subsequent backups have perforrmed correctly This is the only error present in the application log: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: General Event ID: 9385 Date: 15/08/2011 Time: 8:26:39 AM User: N/A Computer: MAILSERVER2 Description: Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to read the membership of the universal security group '/dc=au/dc=edu/dc=nsw/dc=ourdomain/dc=local/ou=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/cn=Exchange Servers'; the error code was '8007203a'. The problem might be that the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant does not have permission to read the membership of the group. If this computer is not a member of the group '/dc=au/dc=edu/dc=nsw/dc=ourdomain/dc=local/ou=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/cn=Exchange Servers', you should manually stop all Microsoft Exchange services, run the task 'add-ExchangeServerGroupMember,' and then restart all Microsoft Exchange services. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. However, there seems to be a big issue with Exchange now, as I cannot create any new accounts. Please see attached. I am going to restart the server in a couple of hours, so hopefully that will fix the issue but will see.
RabbieBurns Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Installed some updates and rebooted the server but the issue persists...
RabbieBurns Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 hmm couple more reboots and it seems ok
