enjay Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I think I've managed to enable offline files okay (thanks in the main to Synack's post in http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/48906-windows-7-offline-files.html), however the laptop isn't saving any local profiles. I've changed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\CachedLogonsCount= to 5 where previously it was 0, however profiles are still being deleted at logoff. What am I missing?

If I change a file in MyDocs on the network, then it keeps that version as I go offline, but if I change it offline, it doesn't sync it back to the network at next logon. Same question as above then Do you have the Sync files at logon disabled? But sync files at logoff enabled? If that makes sense. Or isnt' it syncing it anytime from laptop to pc (logon or off)? Steve

irsprint84 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I tried offline files and made me cry! lost some peoplpes work when wiping a laptop just go with remote services or at worst make a shortcut to one folder thats accessable on the C: drive

Possibly worth stating that the folder I'm syncing is the whole user share (i.e. \\servername\username$) which is also a mapped drive - could be why I'm not seeing the same options...

enjay Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 Sorry, I do have that. My bad. Only when logged in as administrator though. Indeed, when logged in as a regular user, I can't even open the Sync Center. That could be because I've disabled all the non-essential Control Panel options, so presumably stopped users from accessing the Sync Center - I'll change that and see how much I fix...

I mentioned in there about the access denied thing but I dont seem to have posted a follow up to how i fixed it. From memory though, I think it was this page "Access Denied" Error Synchronizing Encrypted Offline Files that pointed me in the right direction. I didnt look to fix the encryption, I just took the easy option and disabled it. 1
enjay Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 Okay, users can now open the Sync Center although it looks like they have to create their own schedules, rather than me push one out to them. Not such a problem, as we only have a very small number of laptop users anyway. Given the number of other things I need to do to get the new Win7 network ready for September, I'm happy to call this and win and move on...
