fiza Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I am about to trash my existing 2003 SIMS Server and rebuild it as a 2008 R2. I am following the instructions under Capita KB71383. It states to use the latest ISO from the website (Spring2011) and then ; 9. Now copy the root folder (which contains SNOVA, Options, Setups etc) taken from the old server into the new root location of the SIMS shared folder on the new server, you will be prompted asking you to over-write folders, sub-folders and files, please do so. Do I need everything in my Setups folder transfered across? There are patches and updates from years ago in there.
creese Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Quick answer... No The install should create a new Setups. Delete the old one. You can do this safely as an upgrade will install all the files you need.

NorthernSands Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yeah, I am! SIMS and FMS are far better than they used to be, but I'm always wary and for the sake of a few seconds it puts my mind at rest. FMS in particular always used to be a bit of a bugger.
vikpaw Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) You might want the setups between the installed iso and whatever your current version is. So only if you've gone to summer. Otherwise your db wont be happy moving over. When i did it recently, i made a new root folder and only copied over very selectively, as there were files saved and downloaded all over the shop! Take a look at it, as i wasn't going to take the attend folder over until i realised that attendance letter templates were in there! A very recent thread in the past week, went over some caveats for once the transfer is done, especially if you change the name of the server. As far as i know SP1 isn't supported, though hasn't had any problems so far. Edited July 18, 2011 by vikpaw grammar

vikpaw Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Don't need them once installed, as you can't install a patch twice. Well, very few are able to be run more than once, so there's no need to keep them. I would keep them, but there's no point. I'm just a hoarder.
