contink Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 I suspect I have made a Catch 22 situation for myself here but I figure there must be a solution so help, as always appreciated.. Setup: HP Proliant ML115 server with ESXi 4.0 installed Guest OS's: - Win2k8r2 (for AD, DNS, DHCP) - Win2k3R2 (for Exchange 2k7) - Smoothwall 3 express as firewall (with dedicated "red" NIC for external modem) Now I've spotted that VMWare Go (Free) can patch the hypervisor but I strongly suspect that as part of the process it will shutdown all the guest OS's including the necessary Smoothwall and DNS that's required to access the internet. The question I have is whether or not the Go system will download everything it needs and be able to handle the patching with the Guest OS's offline or will it bork out on me? If so, is that another route I can use such as a downloadable ISO that can handle the necessary patching and upgrades for me offline without the Guest OS's booted up? (Remember it's an HP Proliant ML115 - think this is important). Help gratefully received.
andrew-virtusolve Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 There is a downloadable package for upgrading ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 4.1U1, the following link has everything you need, if you hit any trouble, reply to this or PM me VMware KB: Upgrading ESX 4.0 to ESX 4.1 Go has mixed success rates 1
