Problems Installing Exchange 2010 Sp1

I've tried to do a fresh install of Exchange 2010 (i've satified all prerequsites etc).

 

When i tried to install i got an error about problems with the Powershell Virtual Directory (sorry don't have exact error any more). I googled and it said completly uninstall then start all over again.

 

Now when i come to remove the Hub transport role i get an error

Which the way I am reading this is that it is unable to remove itself as an exchange server from the domain (domain doesn't think its there - nor do other exchange servers). Therefore it can't remove itself as i think the local server thinks its there but it failed installing before it registered itself on the domain.

 

What do other people think? Just format C: and try again or do you think i can salvage it?

we had this issue, you need to check to see if it is showing as a mail server in the AD schema yet. If it is and you just wipe it it will always be there and will cause you issues.

 

You can check by going to start->run->adsiedit.msc

 

Select the second default naming context and drill down to: CN=Services > CN=Microsoft Exchange > CN=Organization > CN= Administrative Groups > CN=(Groupname) > CN=Servers >

 

does your server show here, if it does you will need to delete this server. (BE CAREFUL)

 

if not feel free to just wipe and reinstall.

1. Do as Nick suggested, this is the last resort.

2. Dont just format your drive and start again as AD will still have these object, you have to clean them up.

3. When you have removed from ADSIedit make sure your force AD replication, once complete then you may format and start again.

Yes only me 3 existing servers

2. Does it show Exch being installed in the programs applet, if not then fo, however, if you cant see the Exch 2010 svr in ADSIedit then you should be fine.

3. What I would do, just before you do anyting, is run a quick health check using the ExchBPA

4. BTW, your other 3 exch servers, what veriosn are they?

Exchange 2007 SP3 are the other 3

 

I'll run the health check just to make sure first

I havnt had s chance atm I've just installed windows and run all the pre reqs for it.
