US Schools. Who provides your internet connection?

We at EduGeek are just doing a bit of research and need a question from our US members answering please.

What we would like to know is who provides your schools internet connection? For instance, is it provided by your school district, or via an ISP where the school would run it's own connectivity or some other method?

We would also like to know if your filtering is done via a central location say a district level proxy and filter box or if your school has a direct internet connection with you hosting your own proxy/filter. If you could let us know that would be very handy. We don't want to know ISP names or any commercial data, just what method you use.

Net connections in k-12 usa state schools are federal funded via the CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) from what is called e-rate programme which is provides discount to get 'cheap' broadband. All k-12 state schools will have some kind of filtering (it is part of the cipa act) however CIPA is very misunderstood beast in education sector in usa shall we say by both schools and districts.

Hi Russ. We know that, what we'd like to know if wether connections are provided via private ISP's on a per school basis or are done in a similar way to regional broadband consortiums and controlled at district level.

We get our connection for our entire district through our county office of education (as do most districts in California). We are part of a larger network called CENIC and also the CA K12HSN (K12 High speed network).
