i like this idea

Indeed - I heard the review on PC Pro's podcast a few days ago. They didn't seem that impressed, not being able to think of anything offhand that they would do with it, but I can think of an excellent use: pictures for nursery assesement, taken with a camera and just magically appearing on a server, ready to be assigned to a user (or use face recognition...) and have comment added.

I do indeed have one. It's OK but throughput seems limited (at least through the magnesium alloy body of my camera). I can't see a lot of uses within a school environment... it's an expensive way to replace a cable.

Worth looking at though you can't set proxies on the card.

As long as the camera is on photos will upload, might mean less looking for cameras/tech staff to download photos

i have 58 Samsung cameras all plasic cases. i see them to be a big help in the edication, almost instent uploads to the server no need of cables and or removing memory cards or buying card readers 100% idiot proof. and i will not have to download the photoes coz the staff are to lazy...

the FW update is good even with old cards giving you the same options as the new ones..

I have to say I'm currently playing with a sandisk branded 4GB wi-fi card.

They don't support enterprise wifi setups so you have to use WPA/WPA2 on them.

I spent a few hours on firday trying to get it to work and looking at the card log and the wireless controller the card was connecting to the wireless network but pictures were not automagically appearing.

I've spent a bit more time on it today and suddenly had pictures being uploaded which is very cool.

In the school environment I think it would be great for newspaper type assignments, send the photographers out whilst the reporters start work on their copy waiting for the pictures to be sent on the wire(less) :)

For primaries I think it would be great having the pupils using it to record their own work.

I got the 8GB "pro" version when I bought my camera a few months ago - PC World actually had them priced cheaper than the standard versions, for some reason.

It hasn't had that much use yet, but I'm not particuarly impressed so far - the wireless part seems to work okay, but the card itself doesn't seem to be very reliable. We're now missing footage of the junior school play because the card refused to work when I hit "record". This is a real shame as I think your average school could use a wireless-connected camera - no more swapping cards around and copying files, just point the camera at the subject, take a photo, and a few moments later it's on your system.

I'm rather thinking a tablet / phone or similar might be more suitible for classroom use. The new iPad, for instance, has a decent (5MP) camera on the back, and you could make an app that took a picture and displayed it on screen for the teacher to add indexing data before sending it to a central server.

That's a good idea!
