Cache Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Morning! So having configured Solus 3 last week and assumed was all working, came in this morning, called and asked for Discover to be released by Solus 3 and have been emailed to say it has - but I can't see it. Before I go off I chase Capita up again I want to check my Solus 3 is working correctly. In the log files I have the following which I'm not sure whether it matters or not: 2011-06-06 09:13:42.9172|Info|Getting update list from CCS for customer (SITE ID REPLACED) 2011-06-06 09:13:42.9322|Info|GetPackages(): Sending get packages request : Correlation Id: 4f75b790-37b3-4910-8d29-4ad1b925e5e3 | Data: [Value : (SITE ID REPLACED)] 2011-06-06 09:13:43.8593|Info|Retrieved 0 updates for customer (SITE ID REPLACED) 2011-06-06 09:43:39.8119|Info|RetrieveAuditLogs(): Sending retrieve audit logs request : Correlation Id: b7ffe4dc-e28b-4ff3-83e7-5a42c15f97f2 | Data: [site Id : (SITEID REPLACED), Starting date: 06/06/2011 09:13:12] 2011-06-06 09:43:39.8119|Error|Run(): Unable to send audit log: No error given. 2011-06-06 09:43:40.7480|Info|runTryCode(): Package audit logs retrieved. The Unable to send Audit log occurs about every 30mins so I'm wondering if something isn't working somewhere? Any hints? Thanks!
matt40k Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So in Manage Updates, you don't have SIMS Discover - Spring 2011? Have you changed the channel to SIMS Discover or All channels? If it is missing you might want to contact distribution [at] capita.co.uk to see if they could authorise it for you. 1
Cache Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Managed updates in completely blank at the moment, regardless of whether it's All Products or SIMS Discover. I did log a call this morning and had an email to say it had been authorised - I'll give them another ring and check it definately has. Is that log event normal do you know Matt or something I'm going to have to look into? Cheers
Rawns Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 We're having awful issues with SOULS3 here, and it's still only being trailed in our testing environment. Agents stopping of their own accord, Discover being unconfigurable in site Discover channel...
Cache Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 I've been brave (foolish) and just started pushing it out slowly - so far apart from trying to understand Capita's configuration screens it's gone ok until now (but then I haven't had to deploy anything yet)
matt40k Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Lot of the log file is in debug mode still, so you get all the useless INFO messages. @Rawns - not had any problems with S3 and Discover, it's worked a treat so far. 2
Rawns Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 What's your secret?! I've been told by Capita that they have identified an issue with the Agent service stopping randomly and they are working on a fix. They rung me last week and asked us to be their guinea pig when they have a "fix". May be something you want to keep an eye on...
Cache Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Right, had an email from a nice guy at Capita to say that he'd emailed the service desk to check it was deployed, 2 minutes later Solus 3 emailed me to say updates were available So, having now got discover deployed, I ran a little experiment and now have another question. I configured my Discover Deployment for the server only with all the right settings, set it off to deploy and off it went merrily and installed. I then added my workstation to the deployment as a discover client but nothing happened until I told it to deploy again. Admittedly it didn't install on the server again, only on my workstation but is that how it's supposed to work? You create your deployment, push it out. If you add anything to the deployment you then need to push it out to the clients for it to work again? If that's how it works, I realise it takes into account in the list of workstations online and offline workstations - if the workstations are offline at the deployment time, when they come back online will it automatically carry out the deployment or do I need to tell it to deploy the updates until it hits a full deployment? Thanks again
matt40k Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 It's a bug and it's on Capita's 'TODO' list. Way I do it is deploy the server with Discover, confirm it works, then ask the school for a list of machines that want it, define a few and redeploy. A pain, but I have yet to deploy to a large number so it's no really a biggy at the moment. Normally it's just SMT. 1
Cache Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Thanks Matt - seems to be going well at the moment then. Is this the same with SIMS updates then or do they deploy automatically if the machine's offline/not in the deployment when configured (or have you not had to do one yet?)
matt40k Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 No, SIMS you deploy SIMS Spring 11 over SOLUS3, then when you add a machine it'll install it, when it's online. Discover you have to redeploy, FMS - I'll find out when I get around to it 1
