Message on Windows 7 when installing apps through GPO

Hi Guys

 

I have test domain win2k8 R2 and can't find one setting I remember from Win2k3 and windows xp.

 

When you install any app using GPO in win2k3, on windows xp you will get please wait window with installing software application, before you can log on.

 

How do I get similar message on Windows 7? Tried to google it, but no luck, maybe I phrase search wrongly, don't know. Went through all the GPOs names, but could not match anything.

 

Can you point in right direction?

You'll find this in a GPO under Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Verbose vs Normal Status Messages.

 

Set this to enabled.

I was trying to get this kind of message with installing office 2010 using script, but I don't think it will work same way as msi package installation and display message before logon

If via script it won't display what software it is installing. What you could do is get the installation to invoke a progress bar of MS Office; just so something is displayed to the end user.

dosent work on a per machine script nothing at all will show and with office 2010 i cant get it to install via script at all at startup

Tbh, I've never installed Office 2007 and 2010 via startup scripts. I've personally made use of MDT 2010 and used the Applications section to import the Office software along with the installation details - XML file. I found rebuilding the workstation whilst opting to install Office in the pre-rebuild stages the easiest method.
