Playing m4V files

Had a teacher bring me a file she wanted to play, its a video in m4v format. Whats the best software to use to play it. Tried media player classic and vlc but both didnt seem to support the file type. Its to run on XP.

Either download the codecs, or quicktime (Seeing it's apples itunes stupid filetype )

It's not by any chance a video (s)/he has purchased from iTunes and brought it in, if so my guess is that she might have to use iTunes , log on as themselves and it should then allow them to play it back due to the encryption, might be worth while using a utility such as gspot ( GSpot Codec Information Appliance ) to identify what audio / video codecs its trying to use etc

 

If you don't want to install itunes and its a personal laptop might be easier to get them to bring there own laptop in ?

Thanks, did try quicktime but may not have been a new enough version as was a bit pushed for time. Will probably see about Quicktime.
