Exchange Activesync on HTC Desire

Hi all

 

I'm having an issue setting up the GF's Desire to access her hotmail using activesync, I can see from various forums that's it's possible but I just get an authentication error. It works fine when I go to the hotmail web page so I know the password is ok.

 

Is there an issue with it? I've found a few threads but most are quite old.

Hi there I have a desire with hotmail working, its a bit hit and miss as non the guides are ever perfect ... until now.

 

1. go to mail and select new account and POP.

2. Type in your full email address in the email address and username fields. Then your hotmail password

3. In the POP server field type POP3.live.com

4. Select ssl encryption and port 995

5. Click next and on outgoing settings select login required

6. Put your full email address and password in the next two fields.

7. In the smtp server field type smtp.live.com

8. Encryption type TLS and port 587

 

Then just finish and hope I haven't lied to you and wasted your time .... I'm joking this is how I've got mine setup. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. That just email isn't it so it won't allow me to sync the calendar etc.

Can you recommend any good free apps for monitoring what's using power etc and one for moitoring data usage? There seems to be quite a few.

Got mine working fine using activesync and hotmail:

In Domain\Username use \[email protected] or whatever your email address is, the \ is important

The server should be m.hotmail.com

Sorry, don't use either. The battery life on mine was sorted when I rooted the thing and stuck Cyanogen on it, my phone plan is an old one which still has unlimited data.

Was that on an original desire? Is there a danger of bricking the device if I tried that on an old desire?

Yes, it's an original Desire, I've had it just over a year now. I did have to wipe it and reset to factory defaults to get it to root, but once that's done it's pretty easy. Just follow the instructions on the http://www.cyanogenmod.com for the HTC Desire GSM. One thing though, cyanogen doesn't have the HTC Sense stuff on it, it's more vanilla Android, but there are ROMS with sense on them if you like it.

If I decide to pick up a Desire S are there any drawbacks to getting an unbranded one rather than one from Vodafone who my contract it with?

No disadvantages, the big advantage is you don't get all the crapware the mobile phone providers stick on their branded versions.
