Exchange 2003 > 2010 - Transition - Active Sync advice

Hi all,

 

I'm planning to upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 over the next few months, but I've got a query in regard to Active Sync.

 

I understand that if you co-exist Exchange 2003 and 2010 that 2003 will still act as the bridgehead server.

 

What I want to know is - at what point does Active Sync "take over" on the 2010 box? Is it when the user's mailbox is transferred? or is it from day 1?

 

Any advice gratefully received.

When we migrated we moved all the mailboxes and then repointed the activesync to 2010 but I believe if you have a half and half you point to the 2010 and it knows to redirect the activesync traffic back to 2003 if the mailbox is on 2003 itself. I *think* that is correct but since we didnt have the situation I am not sure.

Hmm... tricky! I'll have to do some more reading I think!

1. Depends on how you want to do the migration. You can have a legacy name space for your 2003 and keep that active, so users on 2003 can continue to use active-syn on old deployement.

2. You can configure the exch legacy url.
