JaSauders Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I have a Hitachi camcorder here that is a hybrid model. It's a DVD and HDD model and there are several videos on the HDD that I need to get off of it. Both with Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux I have been unsuccessful. In Ubuntu Linux if I run lsusb I get a hitachi entry as if the operating system knows the camera is there. In Windows XP, it does absolutely nothing. I'm curious what software on either platform can do the job of importing the videos from this camera via usb?

They come off in .miv (or something similar - can't remember what exactly) - we just change it to .mov and the editing software world is your oyster! In terms of the connectivity problem - does it not have firewire?!

I have one system with a mini firewire port I could try, but it really doesn't make sense as to why it won't just mount as a storage device, especially in Linux. Any other camera I use does that, but this one just sits there not having a clue what it's supposed to do. It sounds like you folks are seeing your cameras mount as storage devices. Mine just flat out never shows up.
