Weird DV tape problem.

I've imported a load of DV tapes for a department here. Normally i don't have a problem, however 2 have a weird sound issue.

 

The avi file plays fine, however at a certain point the sound disappears for the rest of the video. the thing is, i can hear the sound coming out of the camera for the entire playback. I've tried a different camera, and have used both DVIO and WINDV for importing the video and still no change.

 

Can anyone shed and light as to what is going on ?

It could be that your camera's sound output needs adjustment. Try switching to 48KHz/44.1KHz, or 12bit or 16bit - I often got that when working with different canon camera models. Similar adjustments in the importing software can affect it too. Best of luck

Live Essentials doesn't want to install for me, and the camera i am using for playback has no settings for audio.

The sound dissapears when one performance ends and the new one starts. I think the camera settings or even camera was changed and this has different audio settings. Not sure a way round it.

A bit of a bodge would be to take the audio straight from the camera into something like audacity and then sync that to the exisiting footage. There might be a few fiddly sync issues.

 

If it is the audio settings changing, then capture just the first bit that works and export that as an avi file. Then experiment with bit that doesn't work, changing the capture audio settings. Premiere CS4 can display the footage properties, other editing software can probably do the same.

Cheers laserblazer, i've had another coffee and had a thought. Our AV technician transfers DV tapes to DVDR using a capture card. I'm hoping this will work.
