AngryITGuy Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The other half is due a new mobile phone and I was thinking of getting her an Android based one. I've been looking at the HTC Sensation and the Samsung Galaxy S2 has anyone got either of these phones what are they like? Or are there other phones I should be looking at instead? Cheers
Domino Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The galaxy s2 has some of the best reveiws I've seen - and I'm seriously considering it. However, might be worth thinking about it- is raw power something she'll really need? also both those phones are quite big. I know my other half disliked the size of those handsets, so she's gone with a wildfire. less power, but much smaller, and still a great handset. Maybe head down to a local phone store and actually hold the handsets, see what fits best? 1
Guest Guest Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I've just got a galaxy s2, and that things is FAST!!! But it is colossal to hold in the hand.
glennda Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I've got an desire HD which is pretty good battery life is awful tho! 1
hudzen76 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Went for the Motorola Defy (despite the dodgy advertising!) and still well chuffed with it a month in. Far quicker than the missus' Galaxy Apollo, not as bad looking as the rugged label may indicate. Battery life OK (at least comparable with other smartphones from what I understand). Finally moved from Orange to T-Mob due to number of people having 3G problems on Orange and haven't been disappointed as coverage is brilliant round here. 1
Flakes Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) for the other half i would be looking at smaller phones like the wildfire or htc hd mini. Edited May 16, 2011 by Flakes spelling 1
LosOjos Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Also worth consideration if size is an issue is the Xperia X10 mini, can't comment on it as a phone as I've not used it, but the thing is tiny! Generally I'd recommend anything from HTC though, as I'm yet to see a bad HTC Android device! 1
timzim Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Depends how good her eyesight is - if she's over 40 go for the bigger phone so she can read what's on the screen.

AngryITGuy Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 Thanks for the feedback everyone. TBH I was only looking at those phones cos thats what I want, I've had an iPhone for ages and although I think its an excellent phone I just wanted to know how the Android phones compare. I've just seen a picture of someone holding the Galaxy S2 and it is H-U-G-E not sure if she will approve, might just have to let her decide on what phone she wants instead!
budgester Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Another vote for the Motorola defy here, both me and the girlfriend have one.
Guest Guest Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I've got an desire HD which is pretty good battery life is awful tho! http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ Battery life went from a day up to several. In stock form the Desire HD is actually one of the better on battery life out of the the last few generations of smart phone.
SimpleSi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I know my other half disliked the size of those handsets, so she's gone with a wildfire. less power, but much smaller, and still a great handset. Same with my wife last year- she liked the way HTCs worked but didn't want something big so she got a Legend. Battery life went from a day up to several. 'droids only last days if you just use them as phones - a true geek flattens them in 12 hours (or less) Si
timzim Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 What? the bigger screens have a higher resolution, the actual text size is the same, if not smaller. Not if you increase the text size it isn't. You can get more (& better formatted) larger-text on the screen of a larger phone than on a small phone. Comes a point where large text on a small screen becomes useless (i.e. you can only read a few words at a time before you have to scroll down). I've got rubbish eyesight myself - larger text formats nicely on my HTC Desire; on my previous Nokia phone I couldn't even read my text messages (ok, so it did only have about a 1.5" screen).

dirtydog Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 just ordered my wife a Desire S, finally getting her off that Blackberry rubbish!
Admiral208 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I got a desire s last week after having a hero for the last 2 years. Its brilliant. battery life is about 2 days of normal use. its really quick, screen is lovely and build quality is top drawer. plus it has android 2.3. i think the desire hd only has 2.2
Jamman960 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The X10 is pretty good and has been replaced by the Sony Ericsson Arc(android 2.3)... my x10 has been flawless so far although my wife hasn't been so lucky, she brought hers the day after me and has had to return it 3 times now My sister has the x10 mini but I find the screen to be too small for a touch screen phone
pscott Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 My missus went for a Desire Z in the end, still pretty nippy, but she wanted the proper keyboard
