Ric_ Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Just noticed that my machine was running a little slower than usual so I went off to investigate what was using up all the resources... I think that Fireox may be the culprit. Firefox can be resource hungry but I've only got 9 tabs open today and no Flash going on!
Geoff Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 There's some settings you can tweak: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=172041 Also watch out for buggy addons. If you have one loaded that's leaking memory. It's likely that's the problem. Try running Firefox in Safe mode and see if the problem disappears.
Ric_ Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 @Geoff: It's not enough of a leak to be a problem... I still have 40MB of physical memory free!!! Leaving Firefox running for weeks on end probably doesn't help matters.
Geoff Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Oh well that's why. It will eat all your free memory if it can. It's probably cached every page you've visited for the last 4 weeks in ram.
skunk Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Firefox will keep all the pages you have opened in every tab in memory so that you have faster back/forward navigation. At last count colleague had firefox using 1.6Gb of RAM. skunk
