Hey Guys,

Can anybody help me, We have hosted moodle, that is due to run out soon, So we have a made a moodle server onsite.

, And i have requeste dand requested and requested a copy of our backup to no avail.

Can moodle be fully backed up from logging in as an admin in the VLE?

Posted

@andydis:

Do you have FTP access to your hosted moodle server?

If so you can backup your files to a designated folder within the courses module at the bottom and then copy them from that designated folder across to your own in house moodle server and then sort the files out into their respective folders.

If you have access to phpmyadmin on the hosted moodle server it may quicker to copy all the files using FTP and export the database using PhpMyAdmin. :D

honest, answer is i dont know!, all i know is its hosted by i2q or now called synetrix.

There support people are not very helpful (in my experience) as its a "free" trial we have had, funded by the LA for 3 years and we are now taking it in house due to cuts.

IS there a quick test i can do for php access ?

FTP looks like a no.

If it was funded by the LA then it was not free ... and support was bought and paid for as part of that. Saying that, I've always found the i2Q lot pretty helpful, but the folk you may have spoken with might not be as up to speed on the Moodle side of things as those who deal with it day-to-day for them. Try again ... as specifically for assistance to help port your moodle courses, data and files to an in house box. Point out that it is not that you have dropped them to go for a rival, just that you are taking it in house. It shouldn't really matter but ... failing that, drop me a DM and I'll try and point you to the right person (some of which do lurk on here and the odd regular too ... erm ... I'm not saying that they are odd, jut that they are a regular who makes the odd post ... erm ... not posts that are odd, but just occasional posts ... *sigh*):getmecoat:

All you really need is a copy of the mysql database and the moodledata folder and the salt key.

the rest can then be simply downloaded from the moodle site.

Posted
And any blocks, modules, etc that live in the webroot. (unless you know what they are to download them again)

And that! although most are downloadable again

Posted
thanks grumble, they did get in touch today and said its in the post, hopefully with us tomorrow. just anxious and worried they would turn off the live moodle without us having the chance to setup our inhouse one with data, espically when students are *supposed to be revising for exams soon.

ok so i have recieved the DVD's from said company, does anybody know how to "restore" this?

we have installed turnkey on a server and seems to be working but no idea how to get this data on there,

The dvd's i have recieved contain alot of folders ( all 4 digit numerials) and a mysqldump.sql

Am i going to have to install the exact setup ad they have had?

Posted

I'm guessing the 4 digit numerals are the folders from inside moodledata, is there nothing else such as user, temp, sessions, cache, etc?

The mysqldump will be fine that'll just import but depending upon what version it was running before it might need to go through the utf8 conversion process to work with the latest 1.9 moodles.

Is there no directory structure / info at all in what they've provided?

Posted

All i did was download the moodle install files from the net. then install it as it was a new install. Setup you locations such as you moodle data how you want it.

Once you have moodle installed you can then restore all the folders (4 digit number ones) to the Moodledata folder and then replace the mysql database with the mysqldump

You will need to salt key for the config.php file though

Howdy :)

Hope you're doing good!

Looks like a moodledata folder that, upload it all into "moodledata" and import the mysqldump.sql and set up config.php with the mysql db credentials etc.

Might have a sticking point on the passwords as glennda says as they may well have not supplied the salt info to you.
