MAC hostname not showing correctly

I've got a couple of our Macs (10.6.5) that use the AD/OD scenario, and they have standard names (i.e MAC01 etc)

 

On two of them the name shows correctly when using the 'hostname' command,but they show up as 'Administrator's iMac' from Windows machines (such as our Sophos console)

 

I've checked the name in Sharing, and the AD/OD binding and its all correct (ie MAC01) - so where is it getting this Administrator's iMac name from?

 

(Administrator is the default local account created)

Make sure you click on "Edit..." for the Computer Name in Sharing preferences as well and ensure that the correct name is listed in there.

 

It could be that the Mac is pulling the name from your DHCP server so take a look at that and remove any entries in there for that name / IP address.

When I click 'Edit'the name shown is OK,when I click OK after that the Computer name box is empty? Odd.

Sorted it in the end. I edited the \Library\Preferences\SystemConfiguration\preferences.plist file and changed the ComputerName entry - now it shows the correct name in the Sharing section.

 

Still not appearing correctly in the Sophos console though
