Remove My Recent Documents Link

Hi all

 

Im trying to remove the My Recent Documents link from the Save As/Open dialogue.

 

I believe there is policies for when you have office installed, but this is a clean install, and we have the c drive restricted so when the user in different programs goes to Save As its defaulting the My Recent Documents so its crashes out and says restcted etc etc.

 

If we turn off the restrict C Drive everything is Ok,. but we dont want to do this. So what we need to do is remove it from the list or stop it from being the default save as location.

 

The weird thing is some programs go straight to the U drive (Home Drive) and still display the My Recent Documents link which when you click on gives restricted notice which is fine, but its the ones dropping straight into My Recent Documents which is causing an issue.

 

I have all the polies in place to disable it from Start menu etc etc, but still this link shows,.

 

Can anyone help ?

What version of office are you using?

 

Is the computer joined to a domain that can apply GPOs to it?

 

The best way I can think to do it is to change the default save location for office (easily done from the downloadable admin templates for Office/GPOs)

 

search the Microsoft website for "Office *Version* Administrative Template"

Edit : It wont remove the location but it will change the default to elsewhere.

Dont have office on the PC, but found the Shell folders GPO, which ive implemented

 

Seems fine in XP just need to test in 7

Sorry my bad. For some reason I had it in my head that it was office causing a problem. I have no idea where I pulled that information from.

 

Glad you got it working.

 

If it doesn't work in Win 7 then I'm sure there will be an equivalent somewhere that will do the same thing.
